Human rights activist and former presidential candidate, Omoyele Sowore, has come to the aid of Ushie Rita Uguamaye, a National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) member better known as Raye. Uguamaye has been facing significant backlash after a video went viral in which she criticized the administration of President Bola Tinubu.

In a video shared on X (formerly Twitter) on Monday, Sowore announced that he had met with Uguamaye in Lagos and would accompany her to the NYSC Local Government Inspector’s (LGI) office, along with a team of attorneys.

"The journey with youth Corper, Ushie Rita Uguamaye, has commenced in Lagos," Sowore wrote. "She is scheduled to appear before the LGI today, and we are all en route with attorneys."

deteriorating economic conditions and criticized President Tinubu's leadership, sparked widespread debate. Following the video's circulation, she claimed to have received threats regarding her comments.

The NYSC subsequently summoned her to appear before the LGI office at Eti-Osa 3 on Monday at 10 a.m., drawing significant attention to her case. Sowore's involvement has heightened concerns about freedom of speech and political dissent in Nigeria, leaving many to speculate about the potential disciplinary actions Uguamaye may face from the NYSC or other authorities.

As of the time of this report, the NYSC had not issued an official statement regarding the situation.
