In a recent meeting with a delegation from Haier Global Business, Abia State Governor Dr. Alex Otti, OFR, underscored his administration's commitment to creating strategic partnerships that prioritize long-term economic growth over simple investor patronage.
Governor Otti met with Mr. Sunny Liu, Director for Africa at Haier, where he articulated a vision for collaboration with the private sector aimed at establishing robust manufacturing bases in Abia. He emphasized the state's impressive market potential and assured the delegation of a business-friendly environment that would foster innovation and investment.
The Governor encouraged Haier Global Business to consider expanding its operations in Abia, highlighting that local manufacturing can significantly reduce logistics costs while simultaneously creating jobs and enhancing the state’s GDP and internal revenue generation. He expressed his administration's readiness to engage with Haier to explore opportunities that would benefit both the company and the state.
During the conversation, the Haier delegation showed a keen interest in collaboration across various sectors, including education, energy, and agriculture. They discussed the potential establishment of a manufacturing base in Abia, envisioning support for the state’s smart school initiative through the provision of solar systems, IT equipment, and innovative e-classroom solutions.
The meeting was attended by key officials from the Abia State government, including the Commissioners for Science & Technology and Basic & Secondary Education, along with the Director-General of Public-Private Partnerships & Investment Promotion.
This engagement is not just a meeting of minds; it is part of a broader vision to transform Abia into a leading hub for industrial advancement and economic rejuvenation. As Governor Otti continues to foster these dynamic partnerships, the future looks bright for the economic landscape of Abia State.
