A devastating bomb blast along the Damboa-Maiduguri road in Borno State has tragically claimed the lives of at least eight individuals, with several others left injured and rushed to the hospital. The explosion, believed to have been orchestrated by Boko Haram terrorists, occurred on Saturday, intensifying concerns over the ongoing security crisis in the region.
Local sources have been quick to voice their sorrow and outrage. Social media user Ibn Maigana expressed his grief on Facebook, stating, “Inna lillahi wa inna ilaihi raju’un. The road to my hometown, Damboa, has been one of the riskiest in the country for years. Today, they planted explosives that claimed the lives of eight innocent individuals… May Allah protect us and rest the souls of the deceased.”
Another user, @OffucialAzzaki, conveyed a similar sentiment on X, sharing, “A bomb blast has just occurred along Damboa road to Maiduguri. Sadly, eight lives were lost, and several others have been taken to the hospital with injuries. Please pray for the victims.”
In response to this tragic event, ASP Nahum Daso Kenneth from the Borno State Police Command stated that he was in the process of gathering further details regarding the incident.
This attack comes on the heels of alarming statements by Senator Ali Ndume, who highlighted Boko Haram's growing influence in various Borno communities, including Gudumbali, Marte, and Abadam.
"There is no civil authority… the authority is Boko Haram,” he lamented. underscoring the situation. Ndume reported that over 250 attacks have occurred in Borno since November, leading to the deaths of more than 100 soldiers and nearly 300 civilians.
“Things are getting worse. The president should declare a state of emergency… enough of business as usual.”He pleaded for urgent action.
Echoing these grave concerns, Governor Babagana Zulum has warned that the resurgence of Boko Haram attacks and rampant kidnappings is pushing the state to the brink.
