Kano State Governor Abba Yusuf has announced automatic employment for 54 postgraduate students who participated in a foreign scholarship program to study health-related courses in India. The announcement was made during an Iftar reception for the students, who had studied at Symbiosis International University in Pune and returned to Kano last Friday.
Governor Yusuf stated that the students would receive their appointment letters shortly through the Ministry of Health and benefit from the newly implemented minimum wage of ₦71,000 in the state. He emphasized the need for these graduates to utilize their skills to improve local healthcare, particularly focusing on issues like maternal mortality and sickle cell anemia, rather than seeking opportunities outside Kano.
The governor reiterated his administration's commitment to continuing the foreign scholarship program initiated by former Governor Rabiu Musa Kwankwaso, highlighting that of the 1,000 scholarship beneficiaries, 418 were sent to study in India and Uganda last year.
Among the returning scholars are 36 medical doctors, 11 pharmacists, two anatomists, and one radiographer. The Executive Secretary of the Kano State Scholarship Board, Kabiru Getso, noted that the students excelled academically with no failures and took courses that are unique to Kano and Northern Nigeria.
Dr. Yusuf Abdulmalik Abubakar, representing the graduates, expressed deep gratitude to the Kano State Government for the life-changing opportunity provided.
