Arsenal is working diligently to secure the long-term future of Ethan Nwaneri, as the club faces the risk of the talented 18-year-old being courted by rival teams.
According to the Daily Mail, Arsenal is “closing in” on a new contract for Nwaneri that could extend until 2030. This new five-year deal aims to reflect his escalating role within the first-team squad since he signed his initial professional contract after turning 17 last March.
Having made his senior debut at just 15 years old, Nwaneri was officially promoted to the first team at the beginning of this season, alongside his close friend Myles Lewis-Skelly. The absence of Bukayo Saka due to injury since December has provided Nwaneri with increased playing time, a chance he has seized impressively.
Currently, Arsenal finds itself in a position where they have a vital first-team player on a contract that was initially intended for a developing talent. Given prior interest from clubs like Manchester City and Chelsea, the Gunners are keen to retain Nwaneri’s services.
When Nwaneri made his debut in 2022, he etched his name in history as Arsenal’s youngest-ever player, surpassing Cesc Fabregas's record, and becoming the youngest to appear in England’s top flight—a record that had stood since 1964. At that time, he was merely 15 years and 181 days old, setting a high bar for future young talents.
In addition to bolstering their squad through new signings for the upcoming season, Arsenal is also faced with crucial contract negotiations for several key players. Bukayo Saka, William Saliba, and Gabriel are among those whose contracts are entering the final two years, signaling an urgent need for discussions to secure their futures at the club.
