In a recent show of political solidarity, Nyesom Wike, the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), extended his congratulations to Governor Monday Okpebholo of Edo State following a significant triumph at the election tribunal. This endorsement came shortly after the tribunal upheld Okpebholo’s victory in the September 2024 gubernatorial election, decisively dismissing a petition from Asue Ighodalo, candidate for the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP).
In a statement released by his senior special assistant for public communications and social media, Lere Olayinka, Wike framed the tribunal's ruling as a reaffirmation of the mandate that the people of Edo State entrusted to Okpebholo. He urged the governor to maintain his focus on governance, advising him not to be sidetracked by those “who are only interested in getting power through the back door.”
Wike emphasized that the tribunal's decision signifies a victory for the citizens of Edo State, and he encouraged Okpebholo to stay steadfast in his commitment to public service. “I believe in him, and with the way he has started, I am confident that his administration will bring about positive change for Edo State and its residents,” Wike remarked.
It’s also noteworthy that Wike, a prominent member of the PDP, and Okpebholo, representing the All Progressives Congress (APC), come from different political backgrounds. This congratulatory message underlines the importance of unity and collaboration among leaders, even amid political differences, for the greater good of the people they serve.
