A significant explosion occurred at the Trans-Niger Pipeline (TNP) in Bodo, located in the Gokana Local Government Area of Rivers State. The incident took place on Monday night, and by Tuesday morning, flames were still consuming the affected section of the pipeline. A viral video captured thick black smoke billowing into the sky, while the fire spread rapidly into the surrounding mangrove area.

Authorities have not yet confirmed the cause of the explosion, but there are rising concerns about possible sabotage, particularly in light of threats from militant groups related to the federal government’s withholding of monthly allocations for Rivers State amid the ongoing political crisis.

The TNP is a vital federal pipeline responsible for transporting crude oil to the Bonny Export Terminal.
