The national chairman of the All Progressives Congress (APC), Dr. Abdullahi Ganduje, asserted on Thursday that the opposition coalition formed by former Vice President Atiku Abubakar, Labour Party’s Peter Obi, and former Kaduna Governor Nasir El-Rufai lacks a solid foundation. He emphasized that Nigerians will continue to support APC and President Bola Tinubu in the upcoming 2027 elections.
Reacting to the coalition's announcement by Atiku in Abuja, Ganduje stated that the key figures in this alliance do not have an identifiable political base. Atiku had previously confirmed the formation of this coalition, aimed at challenging the ruling APC in the next election cycle, during a press conference in Abuja. This event gathered various leaders and stakeholders to discuss the recent controversial declaration of a State of Emergency in Rivers State by President Bola Tinubu.
When asked if the emerging coalition could pose a significant opposition to the APC, Atiku responded affirmatively, asserting, “Yes.”
However, Ganduje maintained that no political maneuvering or coalition could impede Tinubu's re-election in 2027. He expressed this sentiment through his senior special assistant on public enlightenment, Chief Oliver Okpala, emphasizing that the coalition is merely a collection of individuals from different parties, united by divergent political ideologies and personal interests.
“Dr. Abdullahi Ganduje's support for President Ahmed Bola Tinubu's re-election in 2027 is unwavering and steadfast as the Rock of Gibraltar,” he declared. “I have no fear about Tinubu's prospects for re-election in 2027, as his performance since taking office as President of Nigeria speaks for itself.”
Ganduje urged the public to dismiss the recent political gatherings and claims made by some politicians who lack a cohesive political base. He described the coalition as an assembly of individuals with varying political objectives, suggesting they would struggle to reach consensus on any significant issues.
“Dr. Ganduje had previously advised those from the north pursuing presidential aspirations in 2027 to reconsider their ambitions, as both northern voters and those across Nigeria are likely to support Tinubu's re-election,” he stated. “No political arrangement or coalition can deter the will of the Nigerian people to re-elect Tinubu as President in 2027.”
