A remarkable gathering took place in St. Peter’s Square today, as over 250,000 people from diverse backgrounds came together to pay their respects and say farewell to Pope Francis during his Requiem Mass.
The ceremony was officiated by Cardinal Giovanni Battista Re, the Dean of the College of Cardinals. He was accompanied by approximately 250 Cardinals, Patriarchs, Archbishops, Bishops, priests, and both consecrated and lay members of the Church, all uniting in this poignant moment.
In his homily, Cardinal Re reflected on the many highlights of Pope Francis’s extraordinary 12-year tenure. He spoke of the Pope’s profound connection with the people, his spontaneous approach to leadership, and, above all, his deep love for the Church that shone through until the very end. It was a fitting tribute to a leader whose life was dedicated to fostering compassion and community.
