In a powerful response to the recent violent attacks in the Ruwi, Manguna, Daffo, and Josho areas of Bokkos Local Government in Plateau State, the Northern States Governors’ Forum (NSGF) has condemned these tragic events and committed to breaking the cycle of violence in the region.
Muhammadu Inuwa Yahaya, the chairman of the forum and Governor of Gombe State, expressed profound sorrow over the attacks, which he deemed a serious threat to both unity and stability in Northern Nigeria. In a statement released on Saturday in Gombe by his spokesperson, Ismaila Uba Misilli, Governor Yahaya extended his heartfelt condolences to the families of the victims and the people of Plateau State, emphasizing the need for a collective effort to bring the perpetrators to justice and restore lasting peace.
"The sanctity of human life must never be taken for granted. These heinous attacks on innocent individuals are absolutely unacceptable and warrant condemnation from every corner of society," Governor Yahaya asserted, underscoring the devastating impact such violence has on rural communities across Northern Nigeria.
Yahaya praised Governor Caleb Mutfwang for his swift and effective response to the aftermath of the attacks, as well as the prompt actions taken by security agencies to restore order. He urged these forces to intensify their efforts in identifying and apprehending those responsible for the violence.
Recognizing the complex dynamics between farmers and herders, Governor Yahaya called for initiatives that promote tolerance, peacebuilding, and mutual understanding among diverse communities. He reiterated the commitment of Northern Governors to collaborate on issues of insecurity, social cohesion, and peaceful coexistence in the region.
"As Northern Governors, we are resolute in taking deliberate steps to end this cycle of violence. This includes strengthening security collaboration, promoting dialogue, and implementing policies that uphold peace and unity," he stated.
In addition, Governor Yahaya appealed to community leaders, religious organizations, and civil society groups to play an active role in advocating for peace, tolerance, and reconciliation. He emphasized that sustainable development cannot occur in an environment rife with violence and fear.
