The Federal Capital Territory (FCT) Police Command has confirmed a devastating accident in Abuja that has claimed the lives of six individuals and resulted in 14 vehicles being destroyed. The tragic incident occurred on March 19, 2025, around 6:58 PM, near the Nyanya Bridge.
According to SP Josephine Adeh, the spokesperson for the FCT Police Command, a distress call reporting the horrific scene was received by the Karu Division shortly after the accident took place. She explained that a Dangote trailer, heavily loaded with cement, lost control while approaching Nyanya Bridge from AYA, crashing into several stationary vehicles caught in traffic.
The impact of the collision ignited a massive fire, engulfing 14 vehicles in flames. In the chaos that ensued, bystanders and motorists rushed to safety as emergency responders arrived to tackle the thick smoke and intense heat. Tragically, six victims were extricated from the wreckage and transported to a hospital, where they were pronounced dead by medical personnel. Their remains have since been taken to the morgue at Karu General Hospital.
Police operatives, alongside fire service personnel and other security agencies, worked diligently to contain the inferno, ultimately restoring normal traffic flow in the area. The FCT Police Command extends its heartfelt condolences to the families affected by this tragedy and assures the public that an in-depth investigation is currently underway to establish the circumstances surrounding the accident and to prevent similar incidents in the future.
