On March 23, 2025, a joint operation by the Federal Capital Territory Police and the military successfully rescued Lt. Cynthia Akor, a naval officer, along with two civilians who had been kidnapped in Mpape, Abuja. The trio was abducted on March 21 during an armed attack by kidnappers at the Maman Vatsa Estate gate, with the assailants demanding a ransom of ₦500 million for Lt. Akor and ₦200 million each for the civilians.
Following a distress call, a coordinated rescue operation was led by Deputy Commissioner of Police, DCP Isyaku Sharu, involving the Police Anti-Kidnapping Unit, military personnel, the Department of State Services (DSS), and local hunters. The search focused on several areas, including Mpape and parts of Nasarawa State.
Based on intelligence, security forces located the suspects at a Fulani resettlement area in Anguwan Mu’azu and Yelwa Hills, where they arrested four individuals and rescued the victims unharmed. Authorities also recovered approximately ₦3.2 million, believed to be part of ransom money from prior kidnappings.
The rescued hostages are currently receiving medical care and are in stable condition. Law enforcement efforts are ongoing to capture any remaining suspects, and additional security measures have been implemented in the region to ensure public safety.
